Homes for Sale in Eureka Valley, San Francisco, CA

Eureka Valley is a predominantly residential neighborhood southwest of the Downtown District in San Francisco, California. Sub neighborhoods within Eureka Valley include The Castro, 19th Street, Corbett Heights, Corona Heights, Dolores Heights, Duboce Triangle, Hartford, Mission Dolores, and Dolores Heights. The area is one of the city’s best neighborhoods, offering a lively and vibrant living environment close to the city center’s busy urban districts.

The neighborhood is one of the most visited city districts, thanks to its many cultural landmarks and historical attractions. The area started as a working-class community for nearby factory jobs with many Irish immigrant families living in the wood-frame cottages and two-story homes. As factory jobs started leaving the area, there was an influx of gay men that started moving into the neighborhood, especially during the early 1900s, attracted by the beautiful Victorian-era homes. The new residents radically changed the neighborhood in the 60s, culminating in 1977 when the district elected the first openly gay politician Harvey Milk. The neighborhood still retains its LGBT roots, with many homes and establishments proudly waving the rainbow flag.

As mentioned earlier, real estate in Eureka Valley consists primarily of Victorian-era homes that were built in the early 19th century. There has been significant redevelopment in the neighborhood through the years, especially in its primary commercial area, The Castro. Properties in the city center include collecting commercial buildings with some custom and Edwardian properties that feature residential properties on the upper levels. In terms of demand, the Dolores Heights sub-neighborhood is one of the most sought after sections in Eureka Valley. This suburb offers a collection of contemporary, custom, and art deco residences with beautiful exteriors and comfortable designs.
