Homes for Sale in Potrero Hill, San Francisco, CA
Potrero Hill is a waterfront neighborhood along the coast of San Francisco. The neighborhood is south of 16th Street, north of Cesar Chavez, and west of the Bayshore Freeway. Potrero Hill got its namesake from Potrero Nuevo, which means new pasture, when Don Francisco de Haro gave a land grant to cattle farmers in 1835. There was significant immigration in the neighborhood during the Goldrush era, and urbanization became heavier through the years as the city became more industrialized. In the 90s, many factories were converted into office space during the internet boom. The eastern portion of the neighborhood is still primarily industrial with multiple docks and warehouses.
Residential real estate in Potrero hill is mostly to the west of the Southern Embarcadero Freeway. The suburban area of the neighborhood features a collection of single-family homes with varying home styles. You can find bungalow-type, contemporary, Victorian, Edwardian, cottage-style, and other designs throughout the area. The southern section also features a large hillside apartment complex that offers affordable housing units for affordable rental home options.
